The Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday relegated Arambagh Krira Sangha to Dhaka First Division League from Bangladesh Premier League for its involvement in spot-fixing and online betting.
The BFF decided after Asian Football Confederation informed Arambagh’s role in match-fixing in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League and asked for an investigation.
Arambagh was fined Tk 5 lakhs, which the BFF said should be deposited in its account of BFF by September 28. The BFF in a statement said it would not be eligible for promotion to the professional leagues for the next two seasons.
Arambagh has already been relegated from the Bangladesh Premier League to second-tier Bangladesh Championship League. With the new decision, they will have to play in the Dhaka Metropolitan First Division League.
Former Arambagh president Minhazul Islam Minhaz, team manager Gowhar Jahangir Rousse and fitness trainer Maidul Islam Sheikh and assistant team manager Arif Hossain have been banned for life for their part in the scandal.
Arambagh footballer Apel Mahmud, Abul Kashem Milon, Al Amin, Rocky Hossain, Mostafizur Rahman are banned for three to five years.
Club’s Nigerian footballer Chizoba Christopher and Australian footballer Smith Brandie Christian have been banned for two years each.
