Mehidy dreams of winning World Cup

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz revealed his dreams of winning the World Cup and of becoming Asia Cup champions.

Mehidy travelled back to Bangladesh with several members of the squad on Wednesday afternoon following the conclusion of the Tigers’ tour of the West Indies.

“Of course, we always dream of winning the World Cup, and of becoming Asia Cup champions. If we stop dreaming then we won’t be able to achieve such feats. We always dream of winning,” he said upon his arrival from West Indies on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old further said that it would be nice to win a big trophy while the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah are still playing for the national team.

“We all have a responsibility indeed and I’ll try to achieve something big with them in the team. But you can’t say for certain that we’ll win the World Cup. We can try, we can play good cricket, and try to find the ways by which we can win the World Cup, but it’s also a matter of luck. We will try for sure,” he said.

Despite being down and out in the Test and T20I series, the Tigers won the ODI series 3-0.

Mehidy believes that such performances in the 50-over format will help them to make an impression in the World Cup, and the experience in the team will pay dividends.

“The 2023 World Cup isn’t too far away. I believe the way we are playing, and the process we are following will come good. We will have the most experienced players. Tamim bhai, Shakib bhai, Mushfiq bhai, and Riyad bhai will be there, and they are very experienced. I, Mustafiz, and Liton have also played in the last World Cup, and we have played international cricket for almost five years. We will be able to go into the World Cup with good experience, and hopefully, we can play well there,” he added.
