50th Aga Khan Gold Cup Golf Tournament begins

The ‘50th Aga Khan Gold Cup Golf Tournament 2024’ started at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka on Friday.

Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman inaugurated the tournament, sponsored by His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Bangladesh, according to a press release.

Approximately 500 golfers are participating in this tournament from all clubs of the country, including representatives of the diplomatic community in Bangladesh.

The tee-off was witnessed, among others, by Madad Ali Virani, president of His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Bangladesh, Vice President Salimah Kassam, Maj Gen Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, master general of the ordnance of Bangladesh Army and vice president of Kurmitola Golf Club, Brig Gen Md Mahbubus Samad Chowdhury, club captain at Kurmitola Golf Club, Brig Gen Abidur Reza Khan (Retd), tournament director at Kurmitola Golf Club, Col Md Shahidul Haque (Retd), chief executive officer of Kurmitola Golf Club, Lt Col Abu Md Sayedur Rahman (Retd), general manager of club affairs at Kurmitola Golf Club, Lt Col Md Anwar Hossain (Retd), general manager of golf operations at Kurmitola Golf Club, members of His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Bangladesh, and high officials of the golf club.

The Aga Khan Gold Cup Golf Tournament is co-sponsored by IPDC Finance Limited, Olympic Industries Limited, Synergies Sourcing Bangladesh, ZXY International, Bombay Sweets and Co Ltd, Mumtaz Herbal Products, Habib Bank Limited, Dhaka Thai Limited, Standard Finis Oil Co, and Bengal Glass Works Limited.

The prize giving ceremony will be held at Banquet Hall of Kurmitola Golf Club on Saturday evening.

Starting in 1973, the Aga Khan Gold Cup has been a cornerstone in the annual golf tournament schedule. The event has been a testament to the Ismaili Council's commitment to promoting excellence in golf and providing a platform for golfers to showcase their skills.
