Prime Bank Cricket Club opener Anamul Haque became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League season since the tournament received List A status in 2013 on Tuesday.
The opener scored an unbeaten 112 against Abahani Ltd to reach four digits. In total, he has scored 1,042 runs in 14 innings this season averaging 80.15, including eight fifties and three centuries.
Before DPL had the List A status, former Bangladesh batsman and current national team chief selector Minhajul Abedin and Kenyan legend Steve Tikolo had scored crossed thousand runs in a season.
Earlier in the season, Anamul had broken Saif Hasan’s record of most runs in a season, which was 814 in 2019, when he scored 73 against Legends of Rupganj on April 21.
His century on Tuesday helped his side crush Rupganj Tigers by 10 wickets. Chasing 230, both Anamul and Tamim Iqbal scored blistering centuries as they reached the total with 23.2 overs in hand.
Anamul stayed unbeaten on 112 off 84 deliveries, hitting 11 fours and six sixes. Tamim scored 109 off 81 deliveries, hitting nine fours and seven sixes.
