Bangladesh national football team left the field in anguish as they lost a chance-plenty match against Turkmenistan in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers on Saturday.

At the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia, Bangladesh were pegged back in early waves of attacks as they conceded five corners in the opening five minutes.

Turkmenistan looked menacing on the first four corners but couldn’t breach Bangladesh’s defence. However on the fifth corner, Turkmenistan found the net in the 7th minute, courtesy of Annadurdyyev Altymyrat, who found got away from his marker and nestled the ball into the far corner from a corner.

Bangladesh equalised soon after from a long throw by Bishwanath Ghosh in the 12th minute.

Mohammad Ibrahim headed in a directed deflection from the long throw.

But Bangladesh’s hopes were crushed in the 77th minute, when substitute Amanov Arslan tapped in a low driven cross by Altymyrat. The match ended 2-1 as Bangladesh lost to 134th ranked Turkmenistan.

Bangladesh will face hosts Malaysia in their last match of the group stage on June 14 at the same venue.
