Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Monday said there is no alternative to expand sports nationwide to eliminate child marriage and child labour.
He made the remark when representatives of UNICEF met him at his office, said a ministry press release, reports BSS.
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, who is also the adviser of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, said the government will work with UNICEF to engage the marginalised children in sports and life-oriented education to divert them from hazardous labour.
During the meeting, various issues regarding the activities of the ministry of youth and sports and ministry of labour and employment such as child labour, child marriage, labour law, mental development of children and adolescents, education of women, and violence against women were discussed.
Youth and sports secretary Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed, UNICEF Child Protection Division Chief Natalie McCauley, UNICEF Child Protection Division Manager Elisa Calpona, and Child Protection Specialist Monira Hasan were present.
Earlier in the morning, the progress of the EARN project, being implemented by the World Bank, was discussed with the officials concerned.
