Australia won against Pakistan by seven wickets in a commanding victory on the back of some solid batting knocks by the Aussie batters.
Alyssa Healy’s 72, Rachel Haynes’ run a ball 34 and skipper Meg Lanning knock of 35 powered Australia to a comfortable victory as the Aussies chased down Pakistan’s modest total of 190 runs in just 34.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.
After being put into bat, Pakistan struggled to get going as they lost four wickets for just 44 runs after 12 overs. Pakistan skipper Bismah Mahroof stitched a 99-run partnership with Aliya Riyaz to revive the innings. This partnership became the highest stand for Pakistan in ICC Cricket World Cups but the sluggish nature of the partnership, which took 189 deliveries, couldn’t take Bismah’s team past 200 as they ended their innings at 190-6 after 50 overs.
Bismah remained not out on 78 and Aliya was dismissed for 53(109 deliveries) by Nicola Carey who along with Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up one wicket each while leg-spinner Alana King had figures of 2-29(9).
In reply, openers Haynes and Healy put together a free-flowing 60-run partnership in 64 balls to give Australia a commanding start.
Left-arm spinner, Nashra Sandhu dismissed Haynes but Healy continued the charge expertly with another fifty-plus run stand with skipper Lanning.
Omaima Sohail, who had figures of 2-39, castled Lanning and later came back to pick up the wicket of Healy.
Perry and Beth Mooney steered the chase sharing a partnership of 40* off just 45 balls to give Australia their second victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022.
