Mominul Haque struck first Test hundred away from home as Bangladesh reached 474 for four before bad light halted their progress on the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Kandy on Thursday.

Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten on 43 alongside Liton Das, 25 not out when stumps were drawn for the second day 25 overs from the schedule.

Overnight unbeaten batsman Najmul Hossain earlier ended up his maiden ton at 163 while Mominul fell for 127.

The 242-run partnership between them is now the highest third-wicket stand for Bangladesh in Tests.

Najmul prodded a return catch to Lahiru Kumara to get dismissed while Mominul tried to drive off Dhananjaya de Silva away from his body with an angled bat but failed to do it properly.
Lahiru Thirimanne took the catch at the first slip.

Mominul, who was unbeaten on 64 overnight, cut spinner Dhananjaya de Silva for four to complete his hundred, his 11th in Test but first away from home in Test career spanning over eight years.

Fellow overnight batsman Najmul, who resumed on 126, struck a boundary off the same bowler next over to bring his 150 runs.

Sri Lankan bowlers appeared more disciplined compared to opening day’s play, which forced Bangladesh to stay content with just 172 runs in little over two sessions on the session of the second day.
