Ban v WI: Joshua hits fifty as hosts struggle to take wickets

West Indies are looking at a big score thanks to a half century by wicketkeeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva on the second day of Dhaka Test.

His fifty came in the first session of day two of the second Test of Bangabandhu two-match series on Friday as Bangladesh continued to struggle to take wickets.

West Indies, who won the toss and opted to bat first, ended day one with 223/5 in 90 overs. In the first session of day two, West Indies added 102 runs losing only one wicket— Nkrumah Bonner (90).

At launch of day two, West Indies were batting at 325 for six in 119 overs. Joshua (70*) and Alzarri Joseph (34*) are currently in the crease.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Bonner as Mohammad Mithun, who got into the XI to replace Shakib Al Hasan, took a brilliant low catch.

After Bonner’s departure, Joshua hit his second fifty in Tests. Joshua and Joseph added 59 runs in the seventh wicket stand.

For Bangladesh, Abu Jayed Rahi and Taijul Islam bagged two wickets each while Mehidy and Soumya Sarkar took one each.

West Indies won the first Test by three wickets riding on the double-ton by Kyle Mayers. Along the way, he became the first batsman in history to hit a double-ton on debut in the fourth innings of a Test match.
