Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket Team lost a golden opportunity to defeat powerhouse India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday as they lost by eight runs despite the visitors only scoring 95 in the second T20I.

The Bangladesh bowlers did well first as they strangled India from early on and did not allow them to score freely, leading to them scoring only 95-8.

Spinner Sultana Khatun was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers as she picked up three wickets, while leg-spinner Fahima Khatun picked up two. Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter, and Rabeya Khan picked up one wicket each.

In reply, Bangladesh struggled from the start as they lost opener Shamima Sultana (5) in the second over, and the other opener, Shathi Rani (5), in the next.

The power play only produced 22 runs and Bangladesh fell into deeper trouble as Murshida Khatun (4) returned in the first over after that. When Ritu Moni (4) fell in the next over, Bangladesh were 30-4 within the eighth over.

However, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty, who was the only Bangladesh batter to reach double figures (38), stitched together a 34-run stand with Shorna Akter, handing Bangladesh hope.

A brilliant diving catch from Deepti Sharma saw Shorna (7) back but Nigar was taking the team forward as the equation came down to 10 from the remaining eight balls in the penultimate over.

But it was not to be as Nigar was stumped off the next ball, and Bangladesh could only add a run before losing their remaining four wickets to get bowled out for 87 and concede the series 2-0.
