Securing a mammoth lead of 394 runs, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 223 for eight in the first of the two-match Test series against the West Indies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque hit a ton in this Test, his 10th in this format of the game. He now has seven centuries at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Along the way of hitting this ton, the southpaw surpassed Tamim Iqbal to become the holder of most centuries for Bangladesh in the most prestigious format of cricket. Tamim hit nine centuries in this format while Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan registered seven and five, respectively.
All of Mominul’s centuries came at the home venues -- his other centuries have been notched up at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
With his seventh ton in Chattogram, Mominul joins Michael Clarke (Adelaide Oval), Mahela Jayawardene (Galle) and Kumar Sangakkara (Galle) to score seven or more centuries in one ground.
Before Mominul reached his 10th hundred, Liton Das recorded his sixth fifty in Tests. Bangladesh eventually, declared at 223 for eight.
For the West Indies, Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican bagged three wickets each while Shannon Gabriel took two.
The visitors now have to score 395 to win this game and they will get more than four sessions to do so. In contrast, Bangladesh have to take all 10 wickets of the tourists.
Earlier, in the first innings of the match, Bangladesh posted 430 riding on the maiden Test hundred of Mehidy Hasan Miraz (103). Shadman Islam and Shakib Al Hasan have also hit a fifty each.
Jomel Warrican was the best bowler for the tourists scalping four wickets, while Cornwall took two.
In reply, despite some good batting displays from captain Kraigg Brathwaite (76) and Jermaine Blackwood (68), the West Indies tumbled for 259 runs in their first innings as they lost the last five wickets in six runs.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy bagged four wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan took two wickets each.
