Bangladesh Under-19 Women’s National Team downed Sri Lanka by 10 runs to ensure their qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament.
Batting first, courtesy of fifties from Afia Prottasha and Shorna Akter,
Bangladesh, following their wins against Australia and Sri Lanka, now have four points from two matches, with a match against USA remaining.
Batting first, Bangladesh were on the charge from the word go as opener Prottasha smashed the Lankan bowlers all around the park to score a fifty off 41 balls, before getting out on 53 off 43 balls, an innings which had five fours and three sixes.
She and her partner, Misty Shaha, was dismissed within the same over, but Dilara Akter and Shorna both took over from where the openers left off.
The duo added 86 runs in just 51 deliveries, with Shorna reaching her fifty off 28 balls in the final ball of the innings, a knock where she hit three fours and two sixes.
Dilara stayed unbeaten on 36 off 27 balls.
In reply, Sri Lanka lost openers Nethmi Senarathna and Sumudu Nisansala early as Bangladesh skipper Disha Biswas removed the latter and Marufa Akter the former.
Sri Lanka skipper Vishmi Gunaratne, who stayed unbeaten on 60, tried her best with Dewmi Vihanga, who scored 55, as the duo added 96 runs for the third wicket.
But that was all in vain as the Bangladesh total seemed too much, and even 12 balls in the final three balls of the Lankan innings saw them fall 10 runs short.
