Bangladesh national cricket team drew the first Test of their two-match series against Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Stadium.
Sri Lanka were leading by 192 runs when the teams accepted the draw, resulting in the match ending an hour before scheduled time.
Angelo Mathews was judged player of the match for his knock of 199 runs in the first innings of the match, while Nayeem Hasan was judged to be the most valuable player of the Test for his six-wicket haul in the first innings.
Bangladesh were looking for a win as they had picked up two wickets by the end of the third day, and two more by lunch on Thursday. Taijul Islam had been involved in all four as he took three and the other was a run out from a direct hit by the left-arm spinner.
After lunch, Taijul picked up Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, and Shakib Al Hasan removed Dhananjaya de Silva to see the visitors six-down with a lead of only 93.
Bangladesh saw an opening to go for the jugular, but they failed as Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshal Dickwella put together a 99-run stand to end Tigers’ hope for a win.
Dickwella stayed unbeaten on 61, while Chandimal stayed unbeaten on 39.
The second Test will start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on May 23.
