Bangladesh crumbled for just 84 in their Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup against South Africa in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Three Bangladesh batsmen- Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Afif Hossain, went for ducks and only three- Liton Das, Shamim Hossain and Shak Mahedi Hasan, managed to reach double figures.
Mahedi top-scored with 27 and was the only batsman to have a strike rate over 100, whereas Liton scored 24 off 36 deliveries.
Kagiso Rabada was the destroyer-in-chief as he nipped the Bangladesh top-order with three wickets, whereas Anrich Nortje also picked up three.
Bangladesh had a steady start as Mohammad Naim and Liton put together 22 off 22 deliveries. But once Rabada got rid of Naim, the floodgates were open.
Soumya returned the next ball and Mushfiq in the next over, whereas skipper Mahmudullah Riyad became Nortje’s first scalp. The Bangladesh skipper also wasted a review in a questionable manner as the ball clearly struck his glove on the way before looping up off his shoulder.
Afif Hossain was also gone first ball as he tried to hoick Dwaine Pretorius, but only managed to lose his stumps.
Liton, who had been the mainstay of Bangladesh’s innings, was next to go when the world’s no. 1 T20I bowler Tabraiz Shamsi trapped him LBW.
World Cup debutant Shamim played a sluggish knock of 11 off 20 deliveries before he became Shamsi’s second scalp, trying to slog the chinaman bowler but only finding Keshav Maharaj at long-on.
The only noticeable intent in the Bangladesh innings came from Mahedi, who struck the only six of their innings and scored the team’s highest 27 before giving a return catch to Nortje. And then, Nasum Ahmed was hit wicket in the next delivery as Bangladesh were bowled out for 84.
