Bangladesh have been pitted in pool A along with Poland, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia and Nepal in the 4th edition of the twelve-nation Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi tournament which begins from Sunday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Pool B consists of Iraq, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda and Japan. The grouping and fixture of the tournament have been finalized at the managers' meeting held on Saturday.
Bangladesh, who won the title of the previous three editions of the tournament, will start their tournament campaign taking on strong South Korea in one of the opening day's matches at 4 pm and meet Malaysia on the following day.
The hosts will play their remaining group matches against Indonesia, Poland and Nepal on May 29, 30 and 31 respectively.
After the group phase matches the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinal on June 2 while the final is slated for June 3.
Meanwhile, the formal inauguration of the tournament will be held on Sunday at the match venue with Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan Papon expected to present in the opening ceremony of the tournament as the chief guest.
Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation president Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun will preside over the opening ceremony.
