Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first against an injury-hit Sri Lanka in the opening Group B match of the Asia Cup on Thursday.

Bangladesh have opted for three seamers and three spinners in Pallekele, with all-format vice-captain Liton Das missing from the 50-over tournament due to a viral fever.

Tanzid Hasan makes his international debut for the Tigers in the tournament, a precursor to the ODI World Cup in India starting October 5.

Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka said it was "a good toss to lose with rain around."

Fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana and left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage joined him onfield after injuries forced key players Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga out of the tournament.

Sri Lanka, which won the T20 edition of the tournament last year, are co-hosting the tournament with Pakistan.
