Bangladesh-origin midfielder Zidan Miah has signed for Spanish club Rayo Vallecano for the 2021-22 season, the player and his agency confirmed on Saturday.

Zidan, who was born in London, is an attacking midfielder and he is set to become the first Bangladesh-origin player to feature for the Spanish club.

Even though Zidan has signed for Rayo, he has not signed for the main team that will feature in La Liga. His agency Genova Soccer informed The Business Post that Zidan will be training with the C team of the club.

“Zidan has signed for Rayo. He has signed for the C team primarily but will also train with the B team. The coach will decide if he can play after seeing him,” the agency said.

The midfielder himself confirmed his signing for the club as he thanked the club for the opportunity.

“I’m very proud to announce that I have signed with Rayo Vallecano FC for the 2021/2022 season. I would like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me. To my coaches and mentors, current and over the years, a very big thank you to you for all your support, time and love,” Zidan wrote.

Zidan, son of Bangladeshi Sufian Mia, honed his skills at the David Beckham Academy and has played in Denmark, Spain, Hong Kong, Thailand and the USA besides England and Wales.

Zidane had previously said that if called up, he is willing to play for Bangladesh.
