The Bangladesh Sports Commentators’ Association (BSCA) has begun its journey with Anupam Hossain as president and Md Shamsul Islam as general secretary.
The leading sports commentators in the country have come under the umbrella of the BSCA to strengthen their bonding through a well-disciplined organisational structure and thus to improve the overall sports atmosphere in Bangladesh.
A general meeting and the election of the BSCA Executive Committee were held at a hotel in Dhaka on Friday, read a press release.
Before starting the proceedings, a special doa was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the late veteran sports commentators like – Abdul Hamid, Md Shahjahan, Taufiq Aziz Khan, Badrul Huda Chowdhury, Ataul Haque Mollik, Khoda Baksh Mridha, Manjur Hasan Mintu, Nur Ahmed, and Mohammad Musa.
The association elaborately discussed the standard of present radio and TV commentary, the role of commentators in the overall development of sports in Bangladesh, and future work plans.
Putting emphasis on introducing strong rules and regulations, the BSCA said it will regularly arrange workshops and give the training to enhance the quality of commentary.
At the meeting, a decision was made to take proper initiatives to ensure standard remuneration for Radio and TV commentators.
Finally, a 15-member Executive Committee was elected for the next two years.
Apart from Anupam and Shamsul, other office-bearers are — vice-presidents Md Palash Khan and SM Abdus Shakur, Joint General Secretary Borhan Uddin Molla, Organising Secretary Md Jamilur Rahaman, and Treasurer Tamanna Siddique.
The executive members are — Kazal Sarkar, Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Shawon Ahsanur Rahman, Anowerul Alam, Jannatul Ferdous, Mozahidur Rahman, Amanullah Sarkar, and Md Robiul Islam.
Sports commentator Alfaz Uddin Ahmed has been made the chief advisor while Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury and Nikhil Ranjan Das have been made advisors of the association.
