Bangladesh national cricket team suffered a 59-run defeat to India in their Women’s Asia Cup clash on Saturday in Sylhet.

Batting first, India cruised to 159-5, courtesy of a fifty from opener Shafali Verma, who scored 55 off 44 deliveries. She was aided well by Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored 47 and 34 respectively.

For Bangladesh, Rumana Ahmed picked up three wickets, with Salma Khatun getting one.

In reply, Bangladesh started slowly as the opening pair of Fargana Hoque and Murshida Khatun put together 45 runs in 55 deliveries.

They could never recover from that sluggish start and a flurry of wickets in the middle did not help either as they finished on 100-7.

Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty top-scored with 36 from 29 deliveries, and she was the only batter to bat with a strike rate over 100.

Shafali was also successful with the ball as she picked two scalps, and so did Deepti Sharma. Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana picked up one each.
