Bangladesh thrashed Turkmenistan in their Round 1 match of AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on Wednesday.

Bangladesh stormed into the game as they took a 2-0 lead within the fifth minute after Puja Das started the goal-fest in the third minute before Thuinuye Marma scored the second. Six minutes before halftime, Bangladesh skipper Ruma Akter made it 3-0 to ensure that the match was in their pocket.

The Bangladesh attacks got only sharper in the second half as Thuinuye scored her second in the 53rd minute to make it 4-0.

Unable to cope with the Bangladeshi attackers, Turkmenistan defenders were forced to make mistakes and gave away a couple of penalties to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh got their first penalty in the 60th minute and forward Sauravi Prity made no mistakes as she converted the spot kick to make it 5-0 before substitute forward Sreemoti Trishna kept her cool from the spot to put her name on the scoresheet and ensure a 6-0 thrashing of Turkmenistan.

Bangladesh was placed into Group D of the Asian Qualifiers with Turkmenistan and the hosts, Singapore.

Eight champions from eight groups will qualify for the 2nd round of the competition. Top four teams from the 2nd round will play in the finals of the 2024 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup to be held in Indonesia next year.

Bangladesh will play Singapore in their second game on April 30 at the same venue, where a win would see them qualified for the next round. Singapore will face Turkmenistan on Friday.
