Bangladesh lost to Afghanistan by seven wickets in their first match of the Asia Cup 2022 at Sharjah on Tuesday.
Winning the toss and batting first, Bangladesh managed 127-7 in 20 overs.
Mosaddek Hossain was the top scorer who remained unbeaten on 48 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan both picked three wickets each.
Chasing 128, the Afghans lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11) early in the innings. Another opener Hazratullah Zazai also did not last long (23).
But it was both the Zadrans — Ibrahim and Najibullah — who took the team to shore and handed a comfortable victory by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.
Ibrahim Zadran was not out on 42 while Najibullah Zadran played a quick-fire knock of 43 off just 17 balls where he hit six sixes. He hit a six against Mosaddek's mediocre off-spin to seal the victory.
Afghanistan won both their matches in the group B stage and qualified for the super-four stage.
The winner between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will advance as the second team.
