Barisal win to eliminate Khulna

Fortune Barisal picked up a comfortable 37-run victory in the ongoing ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday to knock Khulna Tigers out of the tournament.

This defeat now leaves Khulna with four points from 10 matches, meaning even two wins in their last two matches will not put them in the playoffs as Rangpur Riders, who currently occupy fourth place, have 10 points.

Barisal, on the other hand, have 14 points from 10 matches and sit second on the points table, two points behind toppers Sylhet Strikers.

On Friday, Barishal batted first and courtesy of an unbeaten fifty from Iftikhar Ahmed, along with 39 from Fazle Mahmud and 36 from Shakib Al Hasan, scored 194-5.

In reply, skipper Shai Hope’s early 37 from 24 gave Khulna some hope, but nobody other than Yasir Ali Chowdhury, who scored 60 off 38 balls, could manage to score near the asking rate, meaning they fell 37 runs short of Barisal.

Karim Janat starred with the ball for Barisal, who picked up four wickets, alongside Khaled Ahmed picking up a couple.
