Bangladesh Cricket Board has floated an Expression of Interest for the ownership rights of six franchise teams in the eighth edition of Bangladesh Premier League T20, tentatively scheduled between January 20 and February 20 next year.

BCB posted the circular on their website – tigercricket.com – on Monday, asking EOI from interested entities for the 8th edition of BPL, which will be named as Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League to commemorate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The last edition of BPL was held on the 2019-20 season, where Rajshahi Royals won the title by defeating Khulna Tigers in the final.

In 2021, BPL did not take place due to the Covid-19 situation, but a T20 tournament with local players named Bangabandhu T20 Cup was organised with five teams sponsored by local companies.

But this time, the domestic T20 tournament will return to its usual glow, where some big global stars are expected to join.

According to BCB sources, players' draft for the BPL will take place on December 20.

Every franchise must pick a minimum of three foreign players from the draft, and at most three from outside. The total number of foreign players will be limited to seven in the squad and three in the playing eleven.

Bangladesh Test team will travel to New Zealand in December for two Tests as part of the World Test Championship, and the new edition of BPL will kick off after they come home.

Some previous franchises have already shown interest in picking up a team, like Akhter Furnitures, who owned the Chattogram Challengers outfit in the last edition. At the same time, some new interested parties are also there.

The last date of EOI submission is December 5, 2021.

All the interested entities must meet the BCB mentioned criteria to obtain the ownership rights, which is available on the BCB website in detail.
