Former national goalkeeper Biplob Bhattacharjee, who played eight SAFF Championships and a SAF Games for Bangladesh, was named as the goalkeeping coach of Bangladesh national football team on Monday.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) appointed Biplob to join the backroom staff of Jamie Day with the senior national team and U-23's as well as a broad spectrum related to goalkeeping development.

Biplob is the only booter in South Asia to play a record eight SAFF Championships, representing Bangladesh national team from 1997 to 2013 in addition to training Sheikh Jamal DC in last two BPL seasons.

The tenure of Biplob's will be initially one year from January to December 2021 and the AFC will pay his salary.

BFF has decided to create a long-term approach to the development of goalkeepers and Biplob has a wealth of experience both domestic and at international levels.

With notable successes some as captain, as a consummate professional with a refreshing approach to developing goalkeepers at all ages and the Federation is excited by his appointment, said National Technical Director Paul Smalley.

"It's important we create continuity in everything we do. Biplob's appointment allows the catalyst for us to identify and develop goalkeepers from those young age groups to the seniors. We must visit our clubs, connect with the goalkeeping coaches, goalkeepers and also we would like to create a Federation Academy for goalkeepers," Smalley said.

Biplob said he is very excited to join the Federation.

“It's a dream to be able to work at this level of the game as a goalkeeping coach," he said.
