BPL begins Friday

The first phase of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football, country’s most prestigious domestic competition, begins Friday.

Three matches are billed for the opening day at three separate venues across the country. The eleven-round first phase matches will be held from December 9 to February 25 next year at five separate venues across the country.

The venues are Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka, Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj and Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.

On Wednesday, The Bangladesh Football Federation released the fixture.

The first phase matches will be held only on Friday and Saturday in a week.

On the first day, defending champions Bashundhara Kings take on Azampur Football Club Uttara at Bashundhara Sports Complex, and Abahani Limited Dhaka face Fortis Football Club Limited at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

On the same day, Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited meet old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Goplaganj.

All the three matches kick off at 2.30pm.

The remaining first round matches will be held on Saturday.

Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will play against Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla while Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited meet Bangladesh Police Football Club at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city.
