Comilla Victorians made a supposedly easy chase difficult as they beat Fortune Barishal by five wickets to leapfrog them in the points table to move up to second in the points table of the ongoing ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Comilla now have 16 points from 11 games while Barishal have 14 from the same number of matches.
Batting first, Barishal could only muster 121 as Mukidul Islam Mugdho starred with the ball, picking up the first five-wicket haul of this BPL.
In reply, Comilla were too steady, allowing Barishal back into the game, and at one point, the equation had come down to 47 runs off five overs.
But from there Andre Russell and Khushdil Shah started the counter punch to ensure that they won the match with nine balls in hand.
Earlier in the first innings, only three Barishal batters reached double digits- Mahmudullah Riyad (36), Karim Janat (32), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17).
Mukidul was the star of the show as he picked up five wickets for 23 runs, earning the best bowling figures by a Bangladeshi pacer in BPL history.
In reply, Liton Das’ steady 36 off 39 balls held the chase together but allowed Barishal back in the game as they strangled the defending Champions.
But once Russell got in, he smashed 30 off just 16 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes to ensure that Comilla won comfortably.
