Bangladesh cricket team head coach Russell Domingo is unhappy with veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim missing out on the five-match twenty20 series against Australia as he could not comply with the bio-security protocol as demanded by Cricket Australia.

Mushfiq was with the side in Zimbabwe but had to return right before the three-match one-day international series started because of a family urgency. According to CA’s demands, players had to quarantine for at least ten days to feature in the series. Bangladesh Cricket Board tried to bring this down to eight days to let Mushfiq come in, but CA disagreed.

Thus Mushfiq has to sit out the series, and Bangladesh head coach Domingo is not happy with this decision.

“I can’t understand the stringent rules Australia placed on the bio-bubble. I think ten days would have surely been enough. Very disappointing the way they went about it,” Domingo said on a virtual press conference on Sunday.

Despite Mushfiq being a big loss, Domingo believes that Bangladesh have quality players to take his place.

“It’s an opportunity for other one or two younger players to come and play, and I am sure they are capable. No Mushfiq is surely a loss for us, but we have got a big squad and some quality players to replace him,” he added.

Bangladesh’s series against Australia will start on August 3. The rest of the matches will follow on August 4, 6, 7 and 9.

Both teams and match officials are staying in Hotel Intercontinental, and the teams started practising on Sunday.
