Ahead of their series against England, the Bangladesh National Team is currently rocked by the existing rift between One-Day International skipper Tamim Iqbal and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, which came into light following an interview done by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan.

This has created questions on whether the team can function in such a situation, especially as the BCB president stated that the dressing room was unhealthy.

However, the new head coach of the national team Chandika Hathurusinghe believes that the existing feud should not hamper the team’s performance in the series starting from Wednesday.

“I have been on the job for seven days. I have been in dressing rooms and I have been in teams where everyone doesn’t get along. Still, when they step out, they play as a team.

“When you play for your national team that’s what you expect. You don’t need to be the best of friends to go out and have dinner. As long as it is not affecting, I don’t see it as a problem,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.

In the practice session on Monday though there was some tension between Shakib and Tamim as they kept some distance even while completing a fielding drill together, indicating the situation the BCB president mentioned.
