Minister Dhaka’s Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell will leave Bangladesh on Saturday as he will be joining the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders’ fitness camp in Dallas, USA.
The announcement came after their match against Comilla Victorians on Friday was called off due to rain.
This will leave Dhaka without their highest-paid player for the rest of the tournament.
Russell, in a farewell message, said that he has some fitness issues to take care of but believed Dhaka had the capability to go all the way.
“My final game tonight rained out. I was really looking forward to doing what Dre Russ does- entertain, have a good game, have a good send-off. Actually, it didn't happen because of the rain. But I wish everyone the very best moving forward.
“We definitely have a team to win this cup. And for all the Minister Dhaka fans out there, keep supporting and I will definitely be tuning in from Dallas. Sad that I have to go this early, I have some fitness stuff to get done. But it was fun, I really enjoyed the guys, a good bunch of players. They definitely have what it takes to win this cup. So, wish them all the best,” he said.
KKR are organising a fitness camp in Dallas, Texas in the US, and Russell, one of their four retained players for the 2022 season, will be heading there.
The 2022 season of the IPL is likely to start at the end of March.
