Former cricketer and match official Samiur Rahman Sami passed away at the age of 66 at 8:48am on Tuesday at a hospital in Dhaka.
Samiur had been keeping ill for the last 12 months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour and suffered from other health complications.
He was an accomplished right-arm fast bowler and was a member of Bangladesh’s first One-day International team that played against Pakistan in 1986 in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
He featured in one more ODI for Bangladesh but was a regular in the Dhaka League, having played for-Abahani Krira Chakra, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Bangladesh Biman, Kalabagan Krira Chakra, Azad Boys Club and Brothers Union.
He represented the country in the ICC Trophy tournaments in 1982 and 1986 and played in the top-tier of Bangladesh Basketball.
After hanging up his boots as a player, Samiur Rahman went on to officiate in 136 first class, list A and list A T20 matches as a BCB match referee. He also stood as an umpire in 17 first class and 12 list A games.
His Namaz-e-Janaza took place at Dhanmondi Eidgah Masjid field after Zuhr.
