Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed former Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath as the spin bowling consultant of the Bangladesh national team until the Twenty20 World Cup later this year.

BCB has also appointed former South African batsman Ashwell Prince as the batting consultant of the national side.

Both of the latest recruitments will join the side when the Tigers travel to Zimbabwe for a solitary Test along with three one-day internationals and T20Is respectively.

Herath joins the national side after BCB’s contract with Daniel Vettori ended.

The former Blackcaps captain was appointed as Bangladesh’s spin coach on July 27, 2019, and was supposed to work with the national side for 100 working days.

But due to Covid-19 restrictions, he was mostly unavailable and could only work with the Tigers during their tour of New Zealand.

Bangladesh failed to appoint a permanent batting consultant since Neil McKenzie resigned from his post in August 2020.

Jon Lewis was appointed in January this year for the series against West Indies and New Zealand but he continued in his post in the Sri Lanka series home and away.

Herath, a level-3 coach in spin bowling, has previously never worked as a coach after retiring boots in 2018 with 433 Test wickets, the most by a left-arm spinner.

Prince, on the other hand, worked as the batting consultant for South Africa A and also as the A side’s interim-Head Coach.

BCB cricket operations chief Akram Khan told reporters on Saturday that Prince was hired at the recommendation of head coach Russell Domingo.

Bangladesh are scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on June 29.
