Ireland batters led the resistance as they finished the third day on 286-8, leading by 131 runs, despite losing early wickets at the start of their innings in the only Test match against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday.
Ireland started their third day being on 27-4 after their top order crumbled against the Bangladeshi spinners in the third session of the second day and still needed 128 to avoid an innings defeat, but the middle order handled the situation well enough to bring them back into the fight.
Ireland’s Harry Tector started the third day in a slow manner to disrupt the flow of the Bangladeshi spinners, and after Peter Moor was out, he partnered with wicketkeeper batter Lorcan Tucker to build a 72 runs partnership before getting out on 56.
Tucker then led the Irish batting line as he, partnered with Andy McBrine played the whole second session completing his century. Tucker made 108 before Ebadot Hossain finally caught him trapped to bring the breakthrough for the Tigers.
In the third session, Bangladesh were able to take a couple of wickets, while Ireland’s McBrine and Graham Hume continue to fight. They finished the third day being unbeaten on 71 and 9 respectively.
Taijul Islam took four wickets for Bangladesh, skipper Shakib took two, while Ebadot and Shoriful Islam took one wicket each.
Before that, Bangladesh scored 369 in their first innings depending on Mushfiqur Rahim’s 126 replying to Ireland’s 214.
