Bashundhara Kings were handed the Bangladesh Premier League trophy after they drew their 16th-round match with Bangladesh Police FC at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka on Saturday.

Earlier last week, the Kings secured their 5th consecutive Premier League title when they beat Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-1. Kings are the only team to achieve such a feat in the history of BPL football after starting it in 2007.

Police FC were dominating in the first 15 minutes of the game but they could not find an opening. Kings started to make a comeback in the match with Asrar Gafuriv and Mohammad Masud Rana controlling the middle of the park.

Both teams attacked several times but their forwards failed to make use of those chances. Some big opportunities were missed by both teams due to off-side traps. No team could break the deadlock in the first 40 minutes.

Kings’ forward Mfon Udoh finally broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute as he scored a brilliant goal. Sheikh Morsalin passed to Dorielton Gomez in the box then he sent a brilliant cross towards Udoh. The Nigerian scored the goal with an eye-pleasing head to give his team a lead.

The first half ended with Bashundhara Kings leading 1-0.

Police FC played an organized football match after coming from the break but their forward Mohammad Bablu Sheikh missed a huge chance.

Police FC’s Colombian forward Edward Murrilo went for a counter-attack in the 48th minute but Kings goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico saved that brilliantly.

Afterwards, the ball went to Bablu who could send the ball easily to the net but he failed to score after getting an open net. The ball went over the post and it caused a lot of frustration for him.

But the frustration was no longer for Police FC as Mahdi Yousuf Khan scored an outstanding goal in the 50th minute. His powerful shot from outside the box directly found the net. Zico had no chance to stop it.

Kings had a chance to score in the 57th minute but Mohammad Rafique failed to connect the ball was crossed by Morsalin.

Murillo scored the second goal for Police in the 69th minute and gave his team a 2-1 lead in the scoreline. Kings’ defender Biswanath Ghosh failed to stop him and he used the chance.

Oscar Bruzen’s team fought back in the next minute as Dorielton scored for them. Captain Robson Robinho gave an outstanding throw pass towards him and he used it properly.

After that, both teams went for a few attacks but their forwards could not convert them into goals.

After the draw, Police FC maintained their fourth position in the league just behind Mohammedan and Abahani who are in the second and third place with 29 points each.
