Wicket-keeper batter Liton Das achieved his career-best ranking after his 138-run knock led Bangladesh to a six-wicket victory against Pakistan in the second Test and sweep the two-match series.
As per the latest rankings revealed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, Liton now sits at 15th position with 688 rating points, the best amongst the Bangladeshi batters currently.
Senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim who hammered a 191 in Bangladesh’s 10-wicket victory in the first Test, is in 17th position with 675 rating points, reports BSS.
The historic 2-0 series victory over Pakistan also lifted Bangladesh to fourth position in the WTC points table on percentage points and resulted in some major gains for their players in the latest ICC Test Rankings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who contributed a crucial 78 runs and shared 165-run with Liton to help Bangladesh recover from a precarious 26-6 in the second Test, has progressed 10 places to 75th among batters while his figures of five for 61 in the first innings have helped him move from 23rd to 22nd among bowlers and up to seventh among all-rounders.
Bangladesh pacers also got rewarded for their consistency in the Test series. Hasan Mahmud leapfrogged 16 places to sit at 57th position with 367 rating points while Taskin Ahmed jumped 11 places to stay at 85th position with 264 rating points. Young pedigree Nahid Rana who hogged the limelight with his express pace, progressed 23 places to 97th with 225 rating points.
Meanwhile, England batting star Joe Root has consolidated his position at the top of the batting rankings after notching up centuries in both innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's his team won by 190 runs to take a winning 2-0 lead in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series.
Root's scores of 143 and 103 have helped him grab a whopping 41 rating points, increasing his lead over Kane Williamson to 63 points.
Darryl Mitchell of New Zealand, Steve Smith of Australia and Harry Brook of England take positions three to five in the Test batters' list and are followed by a trio of India players – captain Rohit Sharma, his opening partner Yashaswi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli.
