Liton Das' fourth one-day international century and some late hitting from Afif Hossain took Bangladesh to 276 for nine in their first ODI against Zimbabwe at Harare.

Liton picked up his third ODI century against Zimbabwe as he scored 102 off 114 deliveries, with Afif scoring 45 off 35 deliveries.

Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor put Bangladesh in to bat after winning the toss and his strike bowler Blessing Muzurabani got rid of Tigers' captain Tamim Iqbal in the third over for a duck.

Bangladesh lost regular wickets at one end as neither Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Mithun and Mosaddek Hossain could settle in, and Bangladesh were reduced to 74 for four at one point.

But Liton and Mahmudullah Riyad, who had saved the Tigers from a similar situation in the solitary Test, put up a 93-run stand to accelerate and recover from the crisis.

Mahmudullah was sent back by Luke Jongwe for 33 off 52 deliveries, but Liton managed to reach three figures as he put up a 40-run stand with Afif.

Liton hit eight boundaries on his way to three figures before getting out right after for 102 off Richard Ngarava.

Afif looked well set to get his maiden ODI fifty as he rushed to 45 off 35 deliveries. But an ill-timed scoop led to his demise as Jongwe rattled his stumps after getting Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the previous delivery.

All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin could only manage nine runs in the last over as Bangladesh finished on 276.

Jongwe was the hosts' best bowler with three for 51, with Ngarava and Muzurabani also picking up a couple each.

Brief score
Bangladesh: 276-9 (Liton 102, Afif 45, Mahmudullah 33, Jongwe 3-51, Muzurabani 2-47, Ngarava 2-61)
