Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took a fifer against South Africa but a South African tail continued to frustrate the Tigers as the Proteas are at 433-8 at tea on day two of the first Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

Taijul completed his 10th five-wicket haul in Tests, taking the wicket of Keshav Maharaj. He had figures of 5-114 after dismissing Maharaj.

Maharaj was tempted by a tossed up delivery but missed it completely as the ball crashed onto the stumps. Maharaj frustrated Bangladesh, toiling the Tiger bowlers with a knock of 84 off 95 deliveries.

Simon Harmer, who shared a 38-stand with Maharaj, remained not out on 20, while Lizaad Williams was unbeaten on three.

Taijul didn’t have the best of records against the Proteas. Before the second Test, he played only two Test matches against South Africa and managed to take just a single wicket.

He had been included in the lineup in place of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who was ruled out of the second Test due to a shoulder injury.
