Gazi Group Cricketers skipper Mahmudullah Riyad has been fined Tk 20,000 by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis for misconduct in his team’s game against Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League Super League.

Match Referee Raqibul Hasan confirmed to The Business Post that he found Bangladesh’s Twenty20 internationals captain guilty of conducting a level-2 offence, leading to the fine.

The incident, leading to Mahmudullah’s fine, occurred in the 16th over of Prime Bank’s innings.

Gazi Group players appealed for a caught behind against Alok Kapali off left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed but the umpire was unmoved.

Mahmudullah, fielding at slip, came rushing to join the appeal but to no avail. The Gazi Group skipper lost his cool right after as he punched the grass a couple of times and then proceeded to lie down on the adjacent pitch.

Upon returning to his fielding position, Mahmudullah sat down and refused to stand up despite the umpire asking him to.

The match ended in a Gazi Group defeat and ironically, it was Kapali who led Prime Bank to a two-wicket victory.

Mahmudullah is not the first player in this DPL to be fined for misconduct. Earlier in the tournament, Mohammedan SC skipper Shakib Al Hasan was banned for three matches and fined Tk 5 lakh for kicking and throwing the stumps in a match against Abahani Limited.

Legends of Rupganj batsman Sabbir Rahman was also fined Tk 50,000 for misconduct.
