Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called up Mahmudullah Riyad for their solitary Test against Zimbabwe in July.
Mahmudullah, who was previously included in both the one-day and Twenty20 internationals squad for the Zimbabwe tour, makes his return to the Test squad after 16 months.
Mahmudullah was not called up for the solitary Test against Zimbabwe initially but was added to the 17-man squad on Saturday.
The Bangladesh T20Is skipper’s last match in the longest format was against Pakistan in February 2020.
He was not called up for the solitary Test against Zimbabwe at home in March 2020 and then the West Indies and Sri Lanka series in 2021.
BCB’s cricket operations chairman Akram Khan told The Business Post that Mahmudullah was called up as backup for Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim, who are currently injured and uncertain in the Test match.
Bangladesh are scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on June 29. After a brief quarantine period, the Tigers will play a two-day warm-up match on July 3 and 4. The only Test between the sides will kick off on July 7.
Bangladesh will also play three ODIs and the same number of T20Is, starting from July 16.
