Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to injury and he will be replaced by another off-spinner, Nayeem Hasan.
Mehidy, who played for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, sustained the injury on his left hand while trying to take a catch of Tamim Iqbal in the deep against Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at BKSP on Sunday.
Nayeem Hasan, who played his last Test against West Indies in 2021 at home, was called in as replacement.
Despite Mehidy’s injury, the selectors named Mehidy in the Test squad. He was thought to be okay but the extent of the injury was revealed after a scan, ruling him out of the series.
Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first Test on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The second Test will begin from May 23 at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Sri Lanka will arrive in Bangladesh on May 8 and is set to play a two-day practice match on May 10 and 11.
