Bangladesh national team off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a doubt for their first Test against Sri Lanka in May as he has a fracture in his bowling hand.

Miraz, while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the super league of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in BKSP on Sunday, injured his fifth finger trying to take a catch of Prime Bank Cricket Club batsman Tamim Iqbal.

The off-spinner was taken to a hospital in Savar, where scans were conducted. Bangladesh Cricket Board physician Debashish Chowdhury informed The Business Post that Miraz had an avulsion fracture in his right hand.

“Miraz dislocated his fifth finger and there is also an avulsion fracture there. The recovery period is unknown. We have given two weeks’ rest,” Debashish said on Monday.

He added that whether Miraz will be able to play against Sri Lanka will be decided after two weeks.

“We can’t say that now (whether he will play the first Test). Let’s see what happens after two weeks, and how he feels then. Then we can conduct another scan and decide,” Debashish added.

The first Test against Sri Lanka will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on May 15, which is around three weeks away.

Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was also injured during that match as he sprained his ankle. Debashish said that Mushfiq had already recovered and will play in the DPL on Tuesday.

“Mushfiq is okay. He hurt his ankle. But there is no problem. He will play tomorrow (Tuesday),” the BCB physician said.
