Mohammedan Sporting Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Chittagong Abahani as they faced each other in their Bangladesh Premier League football match at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshigonj on Friday.
Mohammedan started pressing the opponent from the beginning. They also held the majority of the possession in the match. They did not have to wait long to take the lead in the game.
Mohammedan right winger Arif Hossain helped the team to take the lead in the 27th minute. His powerful shot outside the box directly found the net.
Chittagong Abahani goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana had no chance to stop it only watching the ball.
After that, Mohammedan defender Emmanuel Tony Agbaji fouled Cht. Abahani’s Nigerian forward Ojukwu David Ifegwu and the match referee showed him a yellow card.
Ojukwu took advantage of the free kick and brought Abahani back to the game. His brilliant set piece outside the box directly found the net and Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon Hossain had nothing to do.
The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-1 though Mohammedan was ahead of creating more chances.
Both teams were playing equally after coming from the chance but they did get many chances to score. Mojaffar Mojaffarov created a huge chance of scoring a goal for Mohammedan in the 77th minute but Cht. Abahani goalkeeper Rana saved with his brilliant skill.
Mohammedan pressed more to Cht. Abahani in the last 10 minutes as They were attacking one after another but the expected goal was not coming. So, they had to be happy with the points sharing.
After 14 matches the Black and White secured their second position with 28 points. Chittagong Abahani is in the fifth with 17 points. As always, Bashundhara Kings hold their position at the top with 34 points.
In the day's other match, relegation-bound Brothers Union Club tasted the first victory in their 14th league match upsetting former champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 3-2 goals at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Friday.
Striker Eleta Kingsley put the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union ahead in the added time of the first half (45+1 minute) while Brazilian midfielder Higor Rodrigues neutralized the margin for Sheikh Jamal DC in the 72nd minute from a penalty (1-1).
Uzbek Shakhzod Shaymanov put Sheikh Jamal ahead from behind in the 74th minute (2-1).
Local midfielder Mohsin Ahmed and defender Rabby Hossain Rahul scored two more goals for the Brothers Union in the 83rd and 89th minutes respectively guiding the team towards Maiden victory (3-2).
After the match, Sheikh Jamal DC remained at the 7th slot with 15 points while Brothers Union Club remained at bottom in the 10- team fray with six points, both playing 14 matches.
