Mushfiq returns home early for family urgency

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will miss Bangladesh’s three-match one-day International and Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe as the veteran batsman has returned home due to family reasons.

Mushfiq left Zimbabwe on Wednesday ahead of Bangladesh’s warm-up game, a BCB statement.

Mushfiq had a hairline fracture in the index finger of his left hand that initially made him a doubt for the solitary Test against Zimbabwe. In the end, Mushfiq played the match but could not field due to his injury.

Before heading to Zimbabwe, Mushfiq requested the selectors to discard him from the T20Is against Zimbabwe but later changed his mind as the cricketers returning from Harare will straight go into a bio-secure bubble meant for the upcoming Australia series, where the Tigers will play five T20Is.

But the scenario changed in a whisker as Mushfiq has now returned home.

“Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the remainder of the tour in Zimbabwe for family reasons.

“Mushfiqur will leave Harare later today and travel to Dhaka. He will miss Bangladesh’s three ODIs against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on 16, 18, and 20 July and also the three-match T20 international series that starts at the same venue on 23 July.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requests that all respect the privacy of Mushfiqur and his family at this time read the statement from the BCB,” their statement read.
