Bangladesh batter Najmul Hossain Shanto made history on Friday as he became the second Bangladeshi batter to score two centuries in the same Test.
After scoring 146 in the first innings, Najmul notched up another one in the second.
He is the second to achieve this feat among Bangladeshis following Mominul Haque against Sri Lanka in 2018.
In the first innings, after coming in early, he thumped the Afghan bowlers to score a brilliant 146, where he hit 23 fours and two sixes.
In the second innings, he came in early again following Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s dismissal, and notched up his fifty within the second day, staying unbeaten on 54 at the end of the day’s play.
He continued from where he left on the third day and played 51 balls to add 46 runs to get to his century, which he reached by taking a single off Hashmatullah Shahidi’s bowling.
He celebrated similarly to his first innings, producing a flying kiss after an initial jump of joy.
So far in this Test, Najmul has hit 36 fours, which is a record for any Bangladesh batter. Courtesy of Najmul’s hundred, Bangladesh have already gained a sizeable lead of 454 runs.
