Former Bangladesh skipper Jahanara Alam was excluded as Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the 20-member preliminary squad for India Women’s Tour of Bangladesh, which is scheduled to start on July 9.
Veteran allrounder Rumana Ahmed was also excluded from the squad as the player had been out of form for a while. Rumana was axed from the squad in Bangladesh’s previous series against Sri Lanka.
However, former skipper Salma Khatun has been called up in the preliminary squad to face India after she missed out on the Sri Lanka series last month.
Bangladesh will host India for a three-match T20 internationals series and a three-match one-day internationals series as a part of the ICC Women's Championship.
Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the itinerary for the India Women’s Tour of Bangladesh 2023. The T20I series will kick off on July 9 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The next two matches are scheduled for July 11 and July 13. All the matches of the series will be played in the same venue.
The ODI series will also take place in the same venue and is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, July 16. The remaining two matches will be played on July 19 and July 22 respectively.
The training of the 20-member squad ahead of the series against India will start on July 1. The players are to report for the camp in Dhaka on June 30.
Team selectors Sazzad Ahmed Shipon and Sajal Chowdhury dropped Jahanara for her poor performances in the Sri Lanka series.
The veteran pacer has played 52 ODIs for Bangladesh and picked 48 wickets at an average of 30.39 and an economy of 4.26. She has 57 wickets to her name from 78 T20Is at an average of 23.31.
