Olympic gold-winning gymnast Margarita Mamun arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday to inaugurate an international gymnast tournament.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun, president of the Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation, said, "We are ready to host the international tournament. We invited the Olympic gold medalists Margarita Mamun to inaugurate the tournament”.
The president said these while unveiling the logo of the tournament at Dhaka Club on Saturday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, was also present at the logo unveiling ceremony, said, “We hired a portion of the National Sports Council’s ground floor for practice gymnasts. We will arrange venue allocation there as per the demand of the federation”.
Margarita Mamun was born in Moscow to a Bangladeshi father and a Russian mother -- Anna -- a former rhythmic gymnast herself. Her father Abdullah Al Mamun, a Bangladeshi engineer, settled in Moscow where the gold medallist grew up.
She is the 2016 Olympic All-around champion. Her gold-winning performance also set a new Olympic record score of 76.483.
