Bangladesh pacer Shohidul Islam has been banned for ten months by the International Cricket Council for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
ICC informed that his ten-month ban is backdated to May 28, 2022, and will not be able to participate in any form of professional cricket until March 28, 2023.
Shohidul played one Twenty20 international for Bangladesh in November last year against Pakistan, where he picked up Mohammad Rizwan’s wicket. In recent times, he has been a regular squad member of Bangladesh across formats but was not picked for the ongoing West Indies tour.
ICC informed on Thursday that they found Clomifene in Shohidul’s urine sample, which is prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition.
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that Bangladesh’s Shohidul Islam has been suspended from all cricket-related activities for 10 months after pleading guilty to breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
“Shohidul had provided a urine sample as part of the ICC’s out-of-competition testing programme in Dhaka on 4 March 2022, which was found to contain Clomifene. Clomifene is classified as a Specified Substance under WADA’s Prohibited List and is prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition,” the press release from ICC read.
Cricket Operations Chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Jalal Yunus, confirmed to The Business Post that he will not be able to play any form of domestic cricket.
“Shohidul has been banned, which means he will not be able to play any kind of domestic cricket until his ban is over,” Jalal told The Business Post.
