Rangpur Riders claimed an easy seven-wicket win over Chattogram Challengers on Wednesday to climb to third in the points table of the ongoing ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.

This win puts Rangpur on 16 points, level with Comilla Victorians, who are currently placed second.

The two sides will meet on Friday, a battle that will decide the final top-two spot besides Sylhet Strikers.

Chattogram could hardly challenge Rangpur as they only scored 132-8, with only skipper Ziaur Rahman (33), who stepped in for the injured Shuvagata Hom, and Tawfique Khan Tushar (28) having some meaningful runs.

For Rangpur, Rakibul Hasan and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Mohammad Naim (20) and Rony Talukder (28) brought Rangpur a good start as they put together 38 runs in 26 balls for the opening stand.

The openers were back by the eighth over but from there, Rahmanullah Gurbaz 46 off 30 balls turned the tide and took them near victory before the Afghan batter was stumped off the bowling of Nihaduzzaman.

From there, skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan (15*) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore  (20*) took them to the win with four overs in hand.
