Former national cricketer Khondaker Musharraf Hossain Rubel, who breathed his last at a city hospital on Tuesday, was laid to rest at the Banani graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Rubel, was a left-arm spinner who played five one day internationals for Bangladesh. He had been suffering from brain cancer and went through perilous treatment for the last few years.
Rubel joined the rebel Indian Cricket League which shortened his span in the national team, but he was a key cricketer in the domestic scenario for his ability to bowl and bat.
He played 112 first-class matches where he picked 392 wickets and scored 3,305 runs with two centuries.
The freezer van, carrying the body of Rubel, was parked right in front of the dressing room of SBNCS where he spent so many hours of his life. Former and present cricketers, officials, journalists, and many of his acquaintances offered the funeral prayer on the ground where Rubel played.
After the prayer, the body was taken to the Banani graveyard for his burial.
