Saudi Arabia produced the first upset of the ongoing FIFA World Cup as they beat Argentina 2-1 in the opening game of group C with two second-half goals.

Argentina ended the first half leading, courtesy of a penalty from skipper Lionel Messi. They had the ball in the net three more times but were ruled out due to offside.

In the second half, Saudi Arabia came out with new-found vigour as they found two goals within 10 minutes to turn the tie around. Saleh Alshehri brought them equal with a neat finish, and then Salem Aldawsari produced a brilliant effort to send them ahead.

From there on, Messi & co tried to find an equalizer but Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Alowais produced a brilliant performance as they were continuously thwarted in the final third, meaning they had to leave without any points.
