Bangladesh Cricket Board selectors are working to make the longer version of the domestic arena stronger, chief selector Minhajul Abedin said on Monday.

Bangladesh’s red-ball woes are not new as they have often failed to impact the elite format.

Even after 21 years of their induction to the format, Bangladesh have failed to make a mark. And it was reflected in the recently ended World Test Championship, where they ended up at the bottom of the table.

BCB chief selector Minhajul said that the selectors have put together a plan to ensure that Bangladesh’s Test side gets better within two years.

“We are planning about the longer version. We want to make a good start from the next season. It will kick off in September if the Covid-19 situation turns better.

“We want to design the longer version in a manner that helps us in Tests within the next two years. We (the selectors) have put together a plan from our experience. If we can go ahead with that, we can take our red-ball cricket to a better situation,” Minhajul said.

He said that they would be submitting the proposal within a few days.

Minhajul believes that if the longer version of the domestic arena is improved, the other formats will soon follow.

“You can not reach the top of the championship unless your domestic circuit is strong enough. You must have a big pool of players. If we can make this work, the other formats will get better too,” he said.

Bangladesh team are currently in Zimbabwe, where their only Test will kick off on Wednesday before the one-day internationals and Twenty20 series.
